Nickel strip for battery connections with highest electrical conductivity available in nickel 200, 201 and 270 grades

Battery Connectors

Battery Connectors

Our Pure Nickel Strip has been the premier material for battery connections for decades. The high purity of our custom-made material offers the highest conductivity of commercially manufactured nickel products due to the low impurity level.
Battery Contacts for Implantable Medical Devices
Patients worldwide rely on batteries to improve and maintain quality of life. Our pure nickel strip materials are used to power implantable devices such as neurostimulators, pacemakers, and cardiac defibrillators.
Aerospace Battery Connectors
Nickel strip engineered for high-tech aircraft battery systems that deliver long life and high reliability. Our materials are critical to safety, providing peak power for engine and emergency power backup.
Rechargeable Battery Components in Drilling applications
Nickel 201/270 strip for rechargeable battery components used in oilfield downhole tools, drilling, measurement, testing, wireline and well intervention. Our materials deliver long high conductivity in extreme conditions and temperatures, in the deepest subsea environments.

Conductive nickel strip for critical battery connectors
99.98% Purity Nickel Strip for 15-20% Higher Conductivity
Non-metallic inclusions are impurities that are imparted to cast products as a result of hot rolling slabs in an unprotected environment. We maintain a low temperature cold rolling process to minimize the impurities from forming. This higher purity reduces impedance which increases the conductivity of our Nickel Strip by 15-20% compared to competitive materials.
Advantages
Our high purity, roll compacted nickel strip offers major advantages for battery connectors as compared to traditional cast nickel strip:
  • 15-20% higher conductivity than standard cast nickel strip
  • Improved power to weight ratio in battery tab connectors
  • Major weight and size advantages in battery pack design
  • Customizable materials
  • Consistent chemistry control
  • Small minimum order sizes, and short lead times
Our battery tab material also delivers low electrical resistivity, homogeneity, micro-cleanliness and close compositional control. This enhances weldability and extends product life for the entire battery. Read more about the benefits in our Nickel Strip White Paper.

Improved power to weight ratio in battery tab connectors
Improved Power to Weight Ratio in Battery Tab Connectors
The higher conductivity of our battery tab material allows for manufacturers and designers to continue miniaturizing the sizes of the battery connections without sacrificing power handling capabilities. The improved conductivity results in a higher transmission of power via a smaller, thinner and lighter strip. This enables a reduction of the battery tab connector footprint, material weight and cost without comprising on performance.
Pure Nickel Strip Grades
We offer three high purity nickel alloy strip grades for battery connector applications:
  • Nickel 270 – UNS N02270 (899A) - WNR 2.4050
AMETEK 899A is our highest purity material with superior conductivity to cast products and offers the most flexibility in design for cost savings, weight reduction, or increased power.
  • Nickel 201/200 – UNS N02201, N02200 (899L) – WNR 2.4068
AMETK 899L is our premier battery grade that offers improved conductivity over Nickel 200 and 201 while maintaining closer mechanical properties to the lower conductivity materials.
  • Nickel 201/200 – UNS N02201, N02200 (899M) – WNR 2.4068
AMETEK 899M is produced as a replacement for Nickel 200 and 201 with similar mechanical properties and without the higher conductivities attributed to higher purity grades such as 899L and 899A.
Sizes
We have the metallurgical expertise to engineer battery nickel strip down to 50 microns in thickness for precision battery tab applications.
  • Thickness: 0.001” to 0.060”
  • Width: 0.060” to 13”
Battery Applications
Our battery strip materials are custom-engineered to connect multiple NiMh, NiCd or Li-Ion batteries into a “pack”. Critical battery connector applications include:
  • Electronics: Battery tab connectors, power tools, GPS, E-bikes, consumer electronics
  • Medical: Electrical and battery contacts, vacuum tubes, cardiac pacemaker cells
  • Aerospace: Aerospace batteries, heat exchangers and bellows
  • Automotive: Electric vehicle batteries
  • Defense: Communications, navigation, and missiles
  • Oil and Gas: Oil pipelines, electronic connectors, rechargeable battery components
Wrought Powder Metallurgy Process for High Purity
Our manufacturing process produces pure nickel strips with mechanical properties that offer major advantages for battery systems. This involves roll compaction of powder into strip, sintering, further densification, homogenization, and purification using a series of cold roll and thermal treatment steps. The term‚ ”wrought powder metallurgy strip” is used to differentiate the product from other powder metallurgy products which have been compacted and sintered but not worked to full density to optimize mechanical properties.
