High precision Titanium strip for implantable medical devices such as pacemaker case and shields

Titanium Strip

Our titanium strip portfolio includes titanium grade 23 (Ti 6Al-4V ELI) and titanium grade 5 (Ti 6Al-4V). These products are custom-made to exacting specifications and predominantly used for implantable medical devices. We also work in partnership with Hamilton Precision Metals, part of AMETEK Specialty Metal Products, to engineer titanium strip and foil in Ti Grades 1, 2, 4 and 9 down to 1.5 microns (0.000060”) thickness.
Titanium Grade 23 Strip (Ti 6Al-4V ELI)
Ti 6Al/4V ELI strip is used in medical implant applications owing to its excellent biocompatibility, high strength, and MRI compatibility.
Titanium Grade 5 Strip (Ti 6Al-4V)
Ti 6Al/4V strip has an excellent combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and fabricability. Consequently, it is used extensively in aerospace, medical, marine, and chemical processing, and surgical implants.
Sizes
Working in partnership with Hamilton Precision Metals, we specialize in re-rolling titanium metal strip to the tightest tolerances and thinnest gauges in the industry — from 1.5 mm (.060”) to 1.5 microns (.000060”) thickness and up to 355.6 mm (14 inches) width.
Advantages for Medical Device Manufacturers
Our biocompatible titanium strip materials deliver outstanding properties for implantable cardiac shields:
  • Fine Grain Size - Improves drawability
  • Highly Ductile - Reduces processing steps
  • Surface Finish - Eliminates splitting, mitigates cosmetic issues improving yields
  • Gauge Control - Repeatability in the stamp / draw process
  • Corrosion resistant
Implantable Medical Enclosure Applications
Our Ti Strip is stamped and formed into enclosures (also referred to as shields, cases or cans) used for implantable medical devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, neurostimulators and infusion devices.
Safe External Charging of Neurostimulator Implants
We have the expertise to produce thin strip in titanium grades 9, 5 and 23 for production of neurostimulator cases that allows for the external charging after being implanted in the patient. Grade 9 is produced at Hamilton Precision Metals – our separate AMETEK SMP facility. Our materials allow for the manufacturing of smaller devices that enable safe, external re-charging for a range of transformative neuromodulation and neurostimulation therapy applications.
